NEW YORK CITY (WPMI) -- Macy’s has unveiled five new balloons that will appear in the 2019 Thanksgiving Day Parade.

"Since their introduction to the lineup in 1927, balloons have become a signature element of the iconic holiday tradition, each year welcoming new and beloved characters from entertainment and pop culture," said Macy's marketing representative Alexa Ambroseo.

The 93rd annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will kick off the holiday season on Thursday, November 28 at 9 a.m.

The newest version of Peanuts’ loveable beagle: Astronaut Snoopy, a flying ham-mobile carrying Sam and Guy from Netflix’s Green Eggs and Ham and Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants & Gary will be featured.

“Spectacle is synonymous with the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and each year we aim to create an even bigger one than the last, with incredible must-see entertainment for millions of spectators nationwide,” Susan Tercero, executive producer of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, told WSYX/WTTE. “Featuring an amazing lineup of high-flying character balloons, jaw-dropping animated floats, world-class marching bands and performance groups, artists covering a variety of musical genres, and of course, the one-and-only Santa Claus, we are ‘Parade Ready’ and can’t wait to take to the streets of New York City to once again herald the arrival of the holiday season.”

In addition, two new heritage balloons will take to the sky, including Smokey Bear in celebration of his 75th birthday, and as part of the Macy’s Parade’s Blue Sky Gallery series which invites contemporary artists to recreate their artwork as balloons, Yayoi Kusama’s Love Flies Up to the Sky will debut.

Along with a few hundred handlers, Macy's flight management team took the balloons out for an outdoor trial run November 2, ahead of their Thanksgiving Day debuts.
