Person of interest arrested in Saginaw’s 13th homicide this year

SAGINAW, Mich. -- Police said a person of interest in the killing of a 43-year-old Saginaw man Tuesday night is now behind bars.

The shooting took place in a home on the corner of Collingwood and Morris in Saginaw.

Police said this marks the 13th homicide in the city just this year.

The victim, Shermein Cooper, was a father, a son, a husband and a friend to many in the community.

Lt. Dave Kaiser with the Michigan State Police said witnesses described a person of interest in Cooper's death and the Bridgeport Police found a 28-year-old who matched the description in the Birch Park Area.

He was detained and then arrested on unrelated charges.
