3 hurt in shooting west of WMU campus Friday morning

Three people were hurt in a shooting near Western Michigan University's campus early Friday morning in Kalamazoo, according to Kalamazoo Public Safety.

Police responded to a nightclub in the area of 2900 Howard Street, west of Western Michigan University's campus around 1:20 a.m. Friday.

Kalamazoo Public Safety said they arrived and found a large crowd. They soon located two victims with apparent gunshot wounds who were transported to an area hospital.

During their investigation, police learned a third victim had arrived at Bronson Hospital with a gunshot wound. They said all three victims were in stable condition.

Police could not confirm if the victims were students.

Western Michigan University Public Safety first tweeted there was a report of a shooting in the area.

Friday marks the end of the first week of fall semester classes at Western Michigan University.
