VASSAR TOWNSHIP, Mich. – One man is custody and another in the hospital following a shooting in Vassar Township.

The Tuscola County Sheriff's Office says the incident happened in the 4800 block of Brown Road just after 11:30 p.m. Thursday night.

Deputies were heading to domestic disturbance call involving a husband and wife.

While en route, someone at the scene called 911 back to say they shot the husband in the head.

That person was a 21-year-old family friend from Bay City who, according to police, retrieved a 20-gauge shotgun pistol and fired it at the husband who was allegedly assaulting his wife.

Michigan State Police arrived on scene first and rendered first aid to the victim, identified as Trevor Betzing.

The suspected shooter was located a few houses down hiding in bushes with a shotgun.

He was then taken into police custody. His name has not been released pending a court arraignment.

Betzing was taken to a local hospital, but no word was given on his condition.

Police were conducting interviews Friday morning in the course of their investigation.
