MSP: Highly intoxicated man assaults woman, child inside home

Roman Garcia, 46, was arrested on multiple charges after troopers said he assaulted a woman and child inside his home while he was highly intoxicated.

ISABELLA COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- An Isabella County man was arrested after troopers said he assaulted a woman and a child inside his home.

Michigan State Police were called to a domestic assault in progress at the Maple View Trailer Park on Pickard Road in Chippewa Township around 8:06 a.m. Saturday.

According to investigators, the suspect, Roman Garcia, 46, was highly intoxicated and had just assaulted and strangled a woman.

Troopers said Garcia also assaulted a child within the residence with a belt.

The adult victim was able to leave from the residence and call 911 from a neighbor's house, according to MSP.

According to responding troopers, Garcia was in the residence with two minor children but refused to come out.

Troopers said Garcia would not allow either minor to open the door or leave while police were attempting to call them out safely.

Garcia was arrested a short time later after one of the minors opened the door.

Garcia is charged with the following:

  • Unlawful Imprisonment
  • Assault With Intent to do Great Bodily Harm Less Than Murder Or by Strangulation
  • Domestic Violence (Third)
  • Domestic Violence (Third)
  • Interfering with Electronic Communications
