GRAND BLANC TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Some of the best high school softball players in the Midwest are here in Genesee County.
This weekend is the Firestix College Exposure Tournament.
The tournament brings in hundreds of people and thousands of dollars to our area
But the county was at risk of losing it all because the fields aren't up to par.
The tournament director went to the Genesee County Board of Commissioners to ask for upgrades to the field surfaces.
This to help keep the tournament from looking for better facilities.
"I think that's why we've had so huge success is just because of location on top of the fact that we always have a good college draw too, a college coach draw and that’s the biggest thing, once the college coaches quick coming, the tournament will dissipate so we need to keep the college coaches here and in order to do that our field quality has to be better,” said tournament director Kevin Babcock.
Babcock says the upgrades will cost somewhere around $150,000, but money has already been approved through a grant.
The work will start in October so they'll be ready in time for next year's tournament.
