FLINT TOWNSHIP, Mich. - A new autism center opened on Ballenger Highway in Flint Township Tuesday.

The Merakey Autism Center will provide education and autism support to our region.

The Pennsylvania-based company has just moved into Michigan.

Regional director Madeline Towsley says it's for families with children and adolescents with behavioral and emotional health needs.

"That behavior technician will work on goals for that child specifically. Increasing behaviors and decreasing behaviors as well to help them with mainstreaming into typical classrooms and really reducing the level of care that individual needs.”

The center will also serve as a special education school and will provide additional supports, including diagnostics for autism spectrum disorder.
