FLINT, Mich – The case of a Genesee County Sheriff Deputy accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman while on duty is heading to trial.

Forty -year-old George Zofchak appeared in Genesee County District Court Friday for his preliminary exam in the case stemming from an incident in December 2018.

That incident began with a couple being stopped for shoplifting on Christmas Eve in Vienna Township.

The female victim’s boyfriend was arrested and taken to jail by another deputy.

According to the prosecutor’s office, then-deputy Zofchak handcuffed the victim and took her to a nearby motel where the couple were staying.

That is where the sexual assault allegedly took place.

Afterwards, Zofchak is said to have told the victim to stay quiet about the incident.

The victim told her sister the next day, who convinced her to report the assault to the sheriff’s department.

A detective lieutenant was assigned to investigate, uncovering the events shared by the sheriff’s office.

Zofchak will now head to circuit court for his criminal trial.
