BAY CITY, Mich. - A 38-year-old Essexville man learned his fate in court Monday.

Gerald Boughter was sentenced to up to 180 months in prison with a minimum of 40 months on a third-degree criminal sexual conduct conviction.

He pleaded guilty in October to charges involving a young teenage victim.

A girl told authorities he had sex with her multiple times from July through October 2017 when she was 14 years old.

Judge Harry P. Gill had a few things to say to Boughter before sentencing.

"You were generally in love with this little girl. You are not supposed to allow yourself to be in love with somebody who is 14 years old when you are 36 years old. That’s just not right."

Both the victim and Boughter also spoke in court before sentencing.
