MT. PLEASANT, Mich. - Some good news for anyone who has a parking ticket at Central Michigan University.

The police will now let you donate your way out of this one.

CMU Police are calling this Food for Fines.

You have until Friday to donate non-perishable food.

After you do, the police say they will reduce or even completely excuse your ticket!

The ticket must not be dated before November 19th though to qualify.

"So far, it’s pretty good. We actually have done a couple hours done quite a bit and it's a lot nicer having people coming with smiles getting money off their ticket rather than angry that they have a ticket. If it goes well, we're hoping we can do this a couple times a year,” said Parking Services Specialist Bree Ring.

All the food is being donated to the CMU Food Pantry.
