DETROIT, Mich. -- The Detroit Zoo has some big updates on the lynx that was captured in the Thumb.
Zoo spokeswoman Patricia Janeway says the lynx is a female, is 4 feet long and weighs 18 pounds.
Based on her size and teeth, they believe that the lynx is less than a year old.
She has a wound on her right rear foot from the trap that was used to capture her that has been since cleaned and sutured closed.
Additional facts are as followed:
- She’s being treated for fleas
- She’s receiving fluids, antibiotics and medication to relieve any discomfort
- A blood sample was saved for submission to the U.S. Forest Service for DNA analysis to determine where the lynx originated from.
The Michigan DNR is working with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to determine the next steps and where she will go from here.
She is still not available for public viewing.
