DEARBORN, Mich. – A statewide Flooded Roads Alert has been issued by AAA Auto Club following a weekend of heavy rain, snow and ice.
This is the second such warning the auto club has issued this year.
In our area, the city of Burton issued a warning to drivers that both Davison Road between Belsay and Vassar, and Atherthon Road west of Center Road are experiencing flooding.
Bay and Midland counties are also dealing with localized flooding caused by the storm.
Drivers are urged to use extreme caution and seek alternate routes.
“Motorists need to exercise extreme caution and slow down when driving on rain-soaked roads and highways,” said Susan Hiltz, Michigan public affairs director for AAA – The Auto Club. “There continues to be a high risk for flooding and hazardous driving conditions.”
Due to the flooded roadways, AAA wants drivers to know the best ways to stay safe and keep their vehicles from getting damaged.
One of the first recommendations is to avoid standing water at all times, AAA noting there is no way to know the depth of water on a flooded roadway.
Deep water can cause damage to cars, including engine flooding.
Other recommendations include leaving ample room between you and the next car, avoiding cruise control and making sure tires are in good condition.
