Now that school is back in session, fall sports are starting back up too.

But here’s a startling fact: Half of middle and high school kids' sports injuries are due to overuse, which is exactly what it sounds like.

"For example, the pitcher, who pitches every game, all year long, and then complains of shoulder pain, when you wouldn't expect a nine or ten-year-old to have shoulder pain," says Dr. Matthew Sardelli of McLaren Sports Medicine.

Before your kids get back into their favorite sports, you also want to make sure they're ready for what that entails.

"Because no matter how much you think your child has maintained a certain level of physical activity, the demands are different in a team sport," Sardelli says.
